Bart Defoort Trio

Bart Defoort has played in a wide range of musical projects since the early 90s, from straight-ahead swing to musical avant-garde, reflecting his open-mindedness, curiosity and musical commitment. He has five CDs to his name, including Moving (1997), Streams (2001), The Lizard Game (2003) and, with Emanuele Cici, Sharing Stories on our journey (2008). Bart Defoort has also been a member of the world-famous Brussels Jazz Orchestra since its creation in 1992.

This new trio is comprised of top musicians who have known each other for several decades and worked together on various projects. Jos Machtel is a leading double bass player on the European scene and was a member of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra for 20 years. Star drummer Jan De Haas has played with Steve Houben, Philip Catherine, Toots Thielemans, Diederik Wissels, Nathalie Loriers, Chet Baker and Rick Margitza, to name but a few.

The sax-bass-drums trio is a form that provides for a lot of transparency, a sort of counterpoint between the bass lines, the melodies and rhythms. The result is great musical conversations, generous groove and swing, great melodies and lots of creativity and interplay. For our concert at the Château du Pont d'oie, the trio will be playing their own compositions and arrangements together with a few gems from the vast jazz repertoire.
