Ghent and Kanazawa in Japan are two sister cities with a close bond, each boasting an incredibly talented youth big band. On International Jazz Day, April 30th, these two bands will meet on stage under the Stadshal. They will perform a number of pieces together and treat the audience and passersby to their own repertoire as well.

🇯🇵 JAZZ-21, under the auspices of the Kanazawa JAZZ Society, will travel to Ghent for a week to immerse themselves in culture and explore a variety of music. Their members range from twelve to eighteen years old. In this big band, you retire at twenty-one.

🇧🇪 The Ghent Youth Jazz Orchestra is supported by Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz vzw and Vuurvogels vzw. This project provides young musicians with over three years to grow, play together, exchange ideas, and, of course, have fun.

This year, JAZZ-21 visits Ghent; next year, the Ghent youth big band will travel to Japan. A unique opportunity to see both bands perform together!
