Francis David Trio + Cuivres

  • Start date : 16/05/2024 20:00
  • Type : Concert
  • Venue : Château du Pont d'Oye
  • Address : Domaine du Pont d'Oye Sa, Rue du Paradis, 6720 Habay, Belgium

This concert is the fruit of a recording project: in 1978, pianist Francis DAVID from Metz played for several months in a club with the drummer Franco Manzecchi, who was at the forefront of the Paris jazz scene at the time. Their plan to record an album came to an end a few months later when Franco died unexpectedly.

In 2023, the project was revived with the album EVANESCENCE. Patrick Manzecchi, Franco's son - who has since become a much sought-after drummer (Scott Hamilton, Barry Harris, Arthur Blythe, Sheila Jordan, Robin Eubanks...) - is the link with the original project. His subtle playing is in the great American tradition of Kenny Clarke, Max Roach and Billy Higgins, and of course his father.

Laurent Payfert, the double bassist on the album, has also worked with first-rate musicians (Steve Lacy, Frank Agulhon, Pierre-Alain Goualch...). Among his dozen or so albums is Danse Sucrée, hailed by the critics in 2015. His powerful sound, solid foundation and great musicality will be there for all to enjoy.

For our concert at the château du Pont d'Oye, the trio will be joined by a horn section featuring Nancy-based trumpeter Patrice Lerech (who has worked with Richard Bona, Paquito D'Rivera, Quincy Jones, Billy Cobham, Martial Solal, Archie Shepp, Dee Dee Bridgewater, etc. and the château's resident saxophonist, Nick Bertolaso.  The concert includes repertoire from the album and mainstream jazz standards.
