On Thursday, April 4th, 2024, the Ghent Youth Jazz Orchestra presents another phenomenal concert. This big band offers young jazz musicians the opportunity to grow, collaborate, exchange ideas, and of course, have fun over a period of three years. Under the direction of conductor Dieter Limbourg, they are preparing for a poetic performance, with the distinguished jazz guitarist Peter Hertmans as a featured soloist. Adding to the ambiance, the stage will be enriched with the vocals of Adinda Hertmans.
Peter Hertmans has composed music based on ten poems from "Cinnamon Fingers," the poetry collection by his brother Stefan Hertmans. These poems form a cohesive collection in which hands and fingers play a crucial role, analogous to a jazz orchestra. Bert Joris has translated these compositions into masterful arrangements, previously performed by the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Expect an evening filled with musical craftsmanship and poetic melodies!
The Ghent Youth Jazz Orchestra is an initiative of Muziekmozaïek and Vuurvogels. This concert is supported by the city of Ghent.
