Kleptomania: 30 years The Yellow Shark (Zappa)

Dave Douglas, Pierre Vervloesem, Bruno Vansina, Samuel Ber and Ensemble Styx present an exciting cross between rock, classical and jazz.

Rock icon Frank Zappa was known for colouring outside the lines and for his collaborations with classical musicians, of which the stunning production The Yellow Shark (1993) with the German Ensemble Modern is a perfect example.

The ensemble Styx, here in quintet formation, succeeded in obtaining the arrangements of some of this musical genius’s immortal classics, despite the protectionist claims on Zappa’s oeuvre.

Guitarist Pierre Vervloesem, saxophonist Bruno Vansina and jazz drummer Samuel Ber were so inspired by Zappa’s creations, that they each wrote a new composition for a classical quintet and jazz musicians. As icing on the cake, American jazz trumpeter Dave Douglas joins this production on stage as leader of the band with a brand new composition.
