Dear Uncle Lennie

How do you create a story without words and through music that is as powerful and evocative as those stories we were told as children by the fireside? The music of Dear Uncle Lennie, the trio led by pianist and composer Camille-Alban Spreng, blends jazz, folk and improvised music. Alike Japanese haikus, each piece in this repertoire for guitar, banjo and piano represents an idea, a fantasized story, a furtive image towards a picturesque landscape. The short pieces follow one another, creating a mythological fresco whose stories are told without words, by musical evocation and with the help of the listener's imagination. For lovers of cornfields, Leonard Cohen, Bill Frisell or Sufjan Stevens…
