Rob van de Wouw is the central guest at the Jazz weekend outside at the Knoet on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 August. He performs with the Rob van de Wouw Quartet on both Friday and Saturday evenings. With a different program and also in a slightly different line-up.
On Friday evening, August 4, the quartet consists of Bas Van Lier (hammond), Bas van der Wal (guitar), Gijs Dijkhuizen (drums) and Rob van de Wouw (trumpet). This foursome goes back to the jazz roots in New Orleans music. Music in which the trumpet often played a leading role, ... think of Louis Armstrong as perhaps the most famous player in the genre.
On Saturday evening, August 5, Bas van der Wal's guitar will be exchanged for Thomas Pol's bass, who will perform the 'normal' repertoire of this quartet together with Rob van de Wouw, Gijs Dijkhuizen and Bas Van Lier: modern, accessible, danceable grooves with influences from funk, soul and R&B, and on top of that the virtuoso trumpet playing of bandleader Rob van de Wouw.
Rob van de Wouw (°1975) is one of the most famous trumpet players in the Low Countries. He graduated from the Rotterdam Conservatory in 2003, a year in which he was one of the founders of the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra. In 2006 he started the Urban Jazz Sessions in the Rotterdam club Rotown: with musicians from soul, funk and R&B he made jazz accessible to a wide audience. It was also the inspiration for his first solo album 'Reboot Your Soul' (2007), which immediately brought him to the stage of the North Sea Jazz Festival.
