Marni Jazz Festival: Giuseppe Millaci Vogue Trio + Takumi Nakayama

Album release

Giuseppe Millaci is one of the busiest bassists on the Belgian scene. His trio’s fourth album (2022) highlights a relationship between the composer and his instrument that has been consolidated over the past three years. A selection of occasionally shorter pieces pay homage to Millaci’s preference for bold rhythms.

Drawing inspiration from the solo albums of Dave Holland, Larry Grenadier and John Patitucci, he provides melodies that showcase the double bass, allowing it to come out of the rhythm section and take its rightful place with a melodic and also harmonic dimension.

The album reflects all the time and thought given to composition, at the service of musicians who are renowned for their expertise and technique : Songbook was a huge success and toured America and Japan, winning an Octave de la Musique “PointCulture” in 2018.

For the festival, the trio is inviting the Japanese saxophonist Takumi Nakayama who joined them on their international tour. After studying in Los Angeles, this musician is not only respected by young musicians, but by older statesmen as well. A composer and arranger, he mainly plays in his own quartet and is always looking to create sensitive music that touches people’s hearts. A truly high-flying quartet !
