"Story of a Traveler" promises a rich and varied musical journey. Each composition, from the wistful "Moving Pictures" to the energetic "Falafel" and the breathtaking "A View," unveils a unique chapter in Cohen's evolving narrative. Tributes like "Orev (Craw)" express deep emotions, while the title track “Story of a Traveler" symbolizes Cohen's personal and musical journey, using a short melody as a metaphor for constant evolution. "Pastures 2.0" showcases Cohen's artistic growth by revisiting a composition from his first album, and "Bait (Home)" explores universal themes of belonging. Each composition in the album promises to be a testament to Cohen's commitment to crafting innovative and emotionally resonant jazz.
The album’s diverse musical palette is further enriched by the contributions of his ensemble, blending Middle Eastern, Jazz, Folk and Rock. Shai Maestro's virtuosity and expressive playing bring melodic richness and sophistication to the piano parts, weaving intricate and emotive threads throughout the compositions. Cyrille Obermüller's bass lines provide a rhythmic foundation and melodic counterpoint, adding depth and complexity to the sonic landscape. Gert-Jan Dreessen's dynamic and versatile drumming enhances the album's rhythmic intricacy and energy, driving the music forward with both subtlety and power.
Tomer explains that the album name, "Story of a Traveler," reflects his personal and musical journey. "Each track is a chapter from different moments and experiences in my life, symbolizing the constant evolution and exploration that define my path as an artist and a person," says Cohen. "The title encapsulates the essence of moving through various cultural landscapes and emotional terrains, much like a traveler collecting stories along the way."
