The title Sougri comes from Mossi (or Mooré), the language of the Mossi people. Depending on the context, it can have different meanings, including “wisdom.” The Mossi originate from the Volta Basin in Burkina Faso, but are also present in Togo and Ghana. Moreover, it is the mother tongue of my Togolese father-in-law.
In Sougri, contemporary jazz meets colorful influences from world music — offering a first taste of the atmosphere and soundscape of the upcoming album.
