TOM MALMENDIER & MARINA TANTANOZI

Drummer Tom Malmendier invites Marina Tantanozi, a versatile flautist and improviser originally from Thessaloniki, and now based in Basel.

She draws her inspiration from a diverse musical background, including jazz, contemporary music and traditional melodies from the Middle East. His unique compositions combine flute techniques with voice, microtonal textures and electronic processing, highlighting communication and temporality in his creative process. Marina's musical journey has taken her across Europe and Russia, where she has performed at festivals and clubs.

She has been a soloist and collaborator with notable ensembles and artists such as the Insub Meta Orchestra, Aquaserge and the Eden/Loriot/Tantanozi trio.

Her interdisciplinary interests extend to collaborations with dancers, theater and visual artists, including her creation of the sound installation “the third space” for Unfrozen Education or How to Relearn in 2019.

Additionally, she co-organized the KlangBang improvised music series in Basel from 2015 to 2019 and co-founded the AdhocArts organization in Athens, Greece in 2021.
