Centre Culturel Jacques Franck

Centre Culturel Jacques Franck

  • Address : Chaussée de Waterloo 94, 1060 Saint-Gilles, Belgique

The Centre culturel Jacques Franck is located in one of the main commercial arteries of Saint-Gilles, the Chaussée de Waterloo, between the Porte de Hal and the Porte d'eau de la Barrière de Saint-Gilles. The building housing the Jacques Franck Cultural Centre was originally a small local cinema called the "Saint-Gillois".

In the euphoria of the Liberation, the cinema was renamed "L'Élysée". Under the impetus of the Commune, it was transformed in 1969 into the "Théâtre du Parvis" and, on the initiative of Marc Liebens, became part of the "Jeune création" movement, an experience that influenced contemporary theatre.

In 1973, the Theatre became the Cultural Centre and was named after the person who was responsible for the cultural use of the place, Senator-Burgomaster Jacques Franck. In 1992, the "CCJF" was approved by the French Community.

Currently a place of meeting, leisure, dialogue, relaxation or debate, the Jacques Franck is particularly interested in the meeting between contemporary artistic creation and current social issues.
