Objectives

INFORMATION ON JAZZ ? WHY ?

• Because jazz, the new musical expression of the 20th century, has revolutionized all music and, to some extent, has conditioned everyday life.
• Because jazz is a unique element of creation. Improvised music, it values the performer better than it has ever been and makes each performance a full and original work.
• Because these incomparable achievements of the 20th century risk, over time, to become rarer and disappear.

WHAT DOES THE HOUSE OF JAZZ IN HAINAUT PROPOSE ?

The Maison du Jazz has three main objectives :

• preserve and enhance the jazz heritage
• broadcast jazz music through all animations and educational sessions logistically assist public and private initiators
• logistically assist public and private initiators

The means available to MJH :

• communication panel with the agenda of Belgian and French jazz events
• video library (films, videos)
• photo library (archives)
• library (rare works, biographies, etc.)
• magazines (Jazz Hot, Bulletin du Hot Club de France... )
• various documentation (press clippings, catalogues, posters, ...)

The activities and actions proposed :

• permanent exhibition at the headquarters of the House of Jazz
• history and initiation to jazz: courses given by a specialist
• specific training for teaching staff
• on-site hearing in our listening room
• organization of concerts, festivals, workshops, training courses, ...
• supervision of internships, exhibitions, various works
• any discographic or bibliographic research on request
• musical conferences
• travelling exhibition available to associations
