Raoul Van den Boom attended the Royal Academy of Arts in Belgium and soon after that ,he started as autodidact to photograph friend in the artist community of antwerp : painters, musicians, visual artists etc ...

He photographed many world famous jazz musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Theolonious Monk, Chet Baker and many others.

As a well-know freelance photographer in the field of publishing and fashion, he travelled many continents extensively and he has collected many images on recycling objects .As such, one could call his odyssey ‘ visionary ‘,both in pictionary as in a metaphorical way.

Many of Raoul Van den Boom's creations are now part of the Collection of the ‘Ethnographic Museum of Antwerp' and MAS, ‘Museum aan de Stroom Antwerpen'.

His work was exibited at many national international expositions. Some milestones are the photobook ‘Antwerp : a city of many faces' (1991) and his Photopromenade (1999) at the Meir (Antwerp's principal shopping axis) where 20 large images (1.20- 4.00m) were integrated in a durable way in the walking ground.
