Vanessa Matthys obtained her Master Degree in Jazz Vocals at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Belgium) with David Linx. Besides her studies in Brussels, she was also admitted at the "Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris" in Paris (France) where she studied for 1 year.

In 2011 she founded the international jazzquartet "Vanessa Matthys Quartet" with Dominique Vantomme (keys), Werner Lauscher (bass) and Geert Roelofs (drums). In 2013 she was a finalist in the international competition for jazz singing in Riga, Latvia. In 2020 one of her latest musical projects - "A.L.D. - A Lucid Dream" - released its first single "Save Me". A.L.D. ties together both electronic jazz and pop, with a lot of live loops and electronics.

In 2021 Vanessa was asked to perform with The Brussels Jazz Orchestra in light of their "Swing of Unity" project.

In 2022 Vanessa toured with her father Marc Matthys throughout Flanders and Austria with an hommage to Toots Thielemans. The repertoire of this tour is recorded and released in 2024 on all streaming platforms; "Time flies, sit back and enjoy".

In 2024 she founded a new project with Ivan Paduart (piano) in which they dive into the American en Belgian jazz Songbook.

Vanessa is a vocal teacher at the Conservatories of Bruges en Kortrijk (Belgium). 

From 2020-2023 she worked as a reseacher at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (Belgium). Together with Katrien Van Opstal she researched the ins and outs of jazz vocal technique. That research resulted in the release of their book “Vocal Jazz Technique - the mixing table model” (2023). More details to be found on the publisher's website Auurk.
