Nicolas Rombouts

Nicolas Rombouts has a reputation as an improvisor on the double bass and a concert organiser within the European free music scene. He played and studied with people like Peter Kowald, John Edwards, Fred Van Hove, Scott Rosenberg, John Russell and Paul Hubweber. Besides his free playing, he also studies jazz at the famous Lemmensinstituut with Philippe Aerts. He's finishing his studies at the conservatory of Antwerp with Gulli Gudmundson.

He works with actors, dancers and poets and plays in other bands like Brazzaville, Small Penguin Trio, Drew, Guido Belcanto, the "GODDAM! A tribute to Nina Simone" Band and David Haney European Trio. He's the founder of the collective Reflexible and co-founder of Club Majestic.

He also plays with saxophonist Steven Delannoye and "Sammy's on the Bowery".

His credo is one of Duke Ellington: "There are only two kinds of music: good music and bad music."
