Fud Candrix

Fud Candrix was one of the most important jazz band leaders in Belgium. He started his career playing in various bands around 1920. His first record sessions date from 1928 in Berlin.

In 1936, he forms a big band, soon considered one of the best European swing bands.

Under the German occupation in Belgium, he led a new band, played in Berlin and recorded serval pieces and film soundtracks.

He recorded a.o. in Paris several tracks with guitarist Django Reinhardt in 1943.

His band existed until the 50ies. He accompanied Coco Collignon, Jeff de Boeck and the Valtonen Singers.

One of his last appearances was at the Jazz Middelheim Festival in Antwerp in 1973, cheer he headed a septet. Several recordings have been reissued.
