Fabrizio Cassol

Fabrizio CASSOL is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory in Liège (1982 - 1985), where he obtained first prize for saxophone while majoring in chamber music and obtaining certificate of improvisation, studying with Garrett LIST, Jean-Pierre PEUVION, Bernard FOCCROULE, Célestin DELIEGE... and composition with Frédéric RZEWSKI, Philippe BOESMANS.
In 1984 he obtained a scholarship to study classical saxophone with François DANEELS.
He followed seminar with John RUOCCO, Denis LUXION... in New York he studies with Steve COLEMAN, Joe LOVANO and in London with Evan PARKER.

Between 1984 and 1992, Fabrizio devoted his efforts to "TRIO BRAVO", with Michel MASSOT (tb, tuba) and Michel DEBRULLE (drs) .
The group gave numerous concerts and appeared in festivals (France, Poland, USA, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria, Spain, Canada...).
There have also been recordings and CDs, production of ballet music (Randy WARSHOW and the Rotterdam Ballet, "Rouge Adagio") by Nadine GANASE.

Film soundtrack "Monsieur Hergé", a RTBF production, the "Voix de Cristal" (first high definition production of the RTBF) for the international exhibition in Sevilla and live shows for TF1, FR3, WDR3,...
Collaboration with circus artists such as Jérôme THOMAS and the Cirque du Paradis.
A short film about the group by Luc GABON of the RTBF.

Since 1993 Fabrizio's main occupation is AKA MOON, born as a result of a trip to the Central-African forest for an encounter with the AKA Pygmies.
Currently, 8 CDs produced and a film produced by Richard VANDEL (on locations Brussels & New York) of RTBF. Two more CDs recorded with the "GRANDE FORMATION" in association with composers, lyricists Antoine PRAWERMAN, Michel MASSOT, Garrett LIST, David LINX.

With Kris DEFOORT he has composed "VARIATIONS ON A LOVE SUPREME" (for Jazz Middelheim 1995).

There is also a composition for dance music, for Catherine LAZAR and Brigitte KAQUET, in 1992, for the piece "LA PETITE MESSE DE PAQUES" with the HELIX ENSEMBLE of Marianne POUSSEUR, Michel DEBRULLE and Vincent JACQUEMAIN.
In 1994 he composed, again, for Brigitte KAQUET for the piece "DIOGENE, CHIEN CELESTE".

As saxophone player he performed in creations of Thierry DE MEY, Baudoin DEJAER, Pierre BARTHOLOMEE, Claude LEDOUX, Eric SLEICHIM, Marc PATCH, Jean-Louis LIBERT... and Henri POUSSEUR as a soloist of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège with Michel BUTOR, Linda HIRST and Michel MASSOT, under the direction of Pierre BARTHOLOMEE as well as in the piece "LEÇONS D'ENFER" by Isabelle POUSSEUR.
He also participated in the "James BALDWIN project" with a.o. Toots THIELEMANS, Bob STEWART, Deborah BROWN, Slide HAMPTON, David LINX, Pierre VAN DORMAEL,...

Since 1989, he teaches improvisation at the Etterbeek Academy.

Received the Belgian DJANGO D'OR in 1998. In 2002, he is the first to play the Aulochrome, a new double reed instrument invented by François LOUIS. He creates in Paris, then in Brussels, a piece by contemporary composer Philippe BOESMANS, and presents the instrument in a jazz context at the Jazz Middelheim Festival (Antwerp) in 2003.

In 2006-2007 he is composer in Residence at the TRM (the Monnaie Opera), in Brussels.
