Piet Verbist

Piet VERBIST studied 4 years solfeggio and double bass at the academy of Ekeren and Turnhout.

He attended jazz workshops with John CLAYTON, Hein VAN DE GEYN and Riccardo DEL FRA and studied during 2 years at the Antwerp Jazz-Studio with a.o. Dave PIKE, Dennis LUXION and Hein VAN DE GEYN as teachers.

In 1994 he won first prize "uitvoerend jazzmusicus"(performing jazz musician) at the Brussels conservatory.

In 1995 he attended a workshop by Dave HOLLAND.

Piet is a highly demanded musician and played with the entire belgian jazzscene :
Eric LEGNINI, Jacques PELZER, Phil ABRAHAM, Nathalie LORIERS, Erwin VANN, Richard ROUSSELET, Kris DEFOORT, Michel HERR, Jack VAN POLL, Jasper BLOM, Dré PALLEMAERTS, Mark TURNER, Rob VAN KREEFELT, OCTURN...

Piet VERBIST is currently active with : Jef Neve trio, Ben Sluijs Quartet and Trio, François Descamps Quartet, JDH band, MP4, Bart Defoort Quartet...

He played on several records: Pirly Zurstrassen Septet, Octurn, JDH band, Jef Neve trio...

For the time being, Piet VERBIST teaches at the conservatorium and arts school of Antwerp.
