  • Instruments : Drums
  • Date of birth : 23/07/1953 - Bruxelles
Luc VANDEN BOSCH started his studies as an interior designer. But music was pulsing through his veins and he went to the Conservatory of Brussels studying percussion, piano, solfeggio and history of music.

Even before entering the Conservatory he was active as a free-lance musician and practised various styles of music. He played jazz-drums in the Conservatory's Big band, the Belgian radio Big-Band, the Alain ROCHETTE-trio, the MIKA quartet (first prize in the European Jazz-contest "JAZZ HOEILAART" 1981, Beograd jazz festival, ....)
Record: MIKA QUARTET "DECEPTIVELY BLUE" (empty reel rec 02001)

In 1985 Luc won the second solo-prize in the AVRO-JAZZ contest in Amsterdam with the combo "RELAX 85".

In 1986 Luc VANDEN BOSCH made a record with the PHIL ABRAHAM QUARTET (multimix records 86001) and went frequently on tour with this band (EBU-jazzfestival in Montpellier (F) in 1987, festival of Vienne (F) in 1988). In 1989 the famous Belgian (jazzy) rock formation VAYA CON DIOS asked Luc as a drummer for 2 European tours, the Tokyo Music Festival in Japan, studio sessions on the CD "NIGHT OWLS" (BMG Ariola 260.600) and two video-clips.

Together with his best friend and great jazzguitar-player Guy RAIFF , Luc forms in 1990 THE GUY RAIFF TRIO. To launch this new trio they recorded 2 years later the CD "ON LINE" (Pavane Records ADW 7268) with 2 guest-players: Art FARMER, U.S. trumpet player, and Charles LOOS, piano-player. With this strength they gave a successful concert at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels.

Bassplayer Roger VANHAVERBEKE asked Luc to join his NEW LOOK TRIO after the decease of one of Belgium's greatest jazz drummers, Freddy ROTTIER .
Within the framework of this trio, Luc had the pleasure and the honour to work with great international jazz solo-players: Deborah BROWN, Judy NIEMACK, Toots THIELEMANS, Al GREY, Art FARMER, Johnny GRIFFIN, Ali RYERSON, Spanky WILSON, Benny BAILEY, Rachel GOULD and many others,....

Charles LOOS (one of the most famous Belgian composers-arrangers and piano-players) asked Luc to join a new old style band named "SWEET SUBSTITUTES":

Charles LOOS (leader and piano), Richard ROUSSELET (trumpet), Phil ABRAHAM (trombone), André DONNI (tenor sax & clarinet), Paolo RADONI (guitar), Paul DUBOIS (bass & vocals).
They recorded a CD: "PAUL DUBOIS & THE SWEET SUBSTITUTES" (Selection rec. CDS 008)

From this septet a successful "new old time trio" without a bass player was created (piano: Charles LOOS, clarinet & tenor: André DONNI). After two years of successful schoolconcerts with tap dancer Martine HEBETTE this original trio still continues.

Since the early 80's Luc has always been active as a teacher (private drum-lessons), a task he fulfils with great pleasure and enthusiasm.

He also composes jazz, theater music and children's songs. He has a ready ear for all kinds of good, real, "live" music.
