Jo Hermans
- Instruments : Trumpet
- Date of birth : 30/11/1983
Jo Hermans has always put music as a guideline throughout his life.
From an early age he started combining different musical genres, winning the soloist prize at the National Brassband Championships or having his own jazz quartet doing a crossover project with the Flemish Radio Choir.
He acquired his degree in classical music at the Royal Conservatory Antwerp and jazz at the Amsterdam School of Arts (Bert Joris, Jan Oosthof, Ruud Breuls).
The combination of having studied both classical music and jazz makes him a much demanded studio artist and live performer, both as section player and soloist and resulted in a wide range of collaborations over the past years: Metropole Orkest, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Daan, Jef Neve, dEUS,
.
His other passion is songwriting. In 2012 he was commissioned by Radio 1 (Belgium) to write a song for Marcel Vanthilt. From there on he further developed his career as a songwriter. Since 2010 Jo is teaching trumpet at the jazz and pop department of the Academy in Antwerp.
With saxophonist Wietse Meys, he forms "The horns" for extensive studio and stage work.
On the jazz scene, he played a.o. with Rebirth::Collective, the octet of trombonist Dre Peeremans, with pianist Jef Neve and his project "Sons of the new world" and with accordion player Anne Niepold.
