Françoise Derissen

Françoise Derissen graduated in the classical section, and then in the jazz section of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where she studied with Jean Louis Rassinfosse.
She then completed her training with Jean-Pierre Catoul and Didier Lockwood.
Since 1992, she has performed in jazz and jazz-rock in several bands.
With her project "There is an effel there" she recorded a CD with her compositions, released on the label "Mognomusic" and with which she performed in Belgium and abroad.

As sideman, she played with Christian Merveille, Yann Tiersen, the Liège group « Autour de Brassens », the Monnaie youth choir in the show « le 20° siècle en chansons », as well as with the gypsy jazz group « Jazzy strings », with Claudine Simon. She has written all the arrangements and provided the musical direction of the cd « branches de vie » of the singer Aurélien Belle released in April 2023 and works regularly with the singer Olivier Terwagne.

She performs in her trio projects with pianist Sabin Todorov and double bassist Boris Schmidt.  As a guest, she played with Italian pianist Mariella Pandolfi.

She released a CD of solo personal compositions « Cordes avides » on the label « Homerecords » on December 6, 2019 and gave many concerts with this project

She has participated in numerous recordings, notably for Christian Merveille, Olivier Terwagne, Jean-Pierre Catoul, Einsturzende Neubauten, Daniel Romeo, Fabrice Alleman, composer and arranger Renaud Lhoest, Aurélien Belle, etc.

She taught jazz violin at « Hogeschool Gent ».
She taught violin at the Jumet Academy and the Botte du Hainaut Academy, and jazz violin + jazz ensemble for 23 years at the Marchiennes-au-Pont Academy of Music,
In July 2016, she taught jazz violin and played at the « Clazz international » festival in Italy.
Since 2006, she teaches jazz violin at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels
For several years, she has been leading a jazz string ensemble project, the « Violin Jazz Band », with students from the jazz section of the Conservatoire.
