David Thomaere

Born in 1988 in a musical family, David Thomaere discovers the piano at the age of 6. Already as a small boy, he loves improvising and composing his own little musical ideas and at the age of 9 he starts at the local music school of Schoten with classical piano lessons.

As a teenager his affection with improvisation grows even stronger and at the age of 17 he starts his Bachelor in jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he studies with Diederik Wissels, Dirk Schreurs, Kris Defoort,…

In the main time he attends several masterclasses abroad which gives hime the opportunity to take lessons with Kenny Werner, John Taylor, Sheila Jordan, Palle Danielsson, Steffano Battaglia,…

For his Master, David leaves for Leipzig, Germany, to study with jazz legend Richie Beirach, after which he returns to Brussels to finish his studies with Nathalie Loriers.

Hereby he feels very honored to receive the "Toots Thielemans Jazz Award" in March 2013. Next to his activities as a musician and composer, David also is teaching at De KunstAcademie of Knokke-Heist and the academie of Ninove.
