Call for applications: Campus 2027 Royaumont

Call for applications: Campus 2027 Royaumont

In 2027, the Transcultural Music Campus will bring together, under the guidance of Naïny Diabaté and Eve Risser, around ten artists keen to explore Mandinka heritage, collective improvisation and contemporary forms of creation based on listening, oral tradition and co-composition. Over the course of two weeks, participants will be invited to experiment with new ways of creating together at the crossroads of West Africa’s living musical traditions and contemporary practices in jazz, improvisation and collective creation.

Organised by the Royaumont Foundation in partnership with the Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac, the Transcultural Music Campus invites two artistic figures with complementary backgrounds each year: an artist from a living musical tradition and an artist committed to inventing new forms of creation and dialogue between cultures.

Conceived as a space for experimentation and collective research, the Campus is aimed at musicians, singers and improvisers wishing to compare their practices with other musical heritages, explore modes of transmission different from those they are familiar with, and open up new spaces for creativity.

Oral expression, listening, rhythm, physical presence and improvisation take centre stage here, without excluding writing and composition. Everyone is invited to bring their own musical world and set it in motion through interaction with other practices, in a dynamic where gestures, timbres, repertoires and imaginations come together and transform.
