’50 ans de jazz en Belgique – Les Lundis d’Hortense’ the book!

An anniversary book exploring five decades of encounters, concerts and a passion for Belgian jazz.

Les Lundis d’Hortense, the musicians’ association dedicated to promoting and spreading Belgian jazz, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026. To mark the occasion, it has done what many people like to do when they reach a milestone: they take stock, reflect on the past, reminisce about fond memories and look to the future.

Drawing on archives and personal accounts, they entrusted the task of compiling the content for this book to people whose instrument of choice is not a saxophone or a pair of drumsticks, but a pen. Three journalists each took on a specific task: setting the context for the association’s origins (Jean-Pol Schroeder), tracing its various activities (Jean-Pierre Goffin) and taking the pulse of the current scene, whilst looking towards the future (Jacques Prouvost).

A book that will make you want to go and listen to Belgian jazz concerts!

This compilation of texts and images is on sale for €30.00 in bookshops, at concerts organised by the association in Brussels, by ordering directly via email from the association, or online via the publisher’s website, Samsa Editions.
