GYJO in Kanazawa
In early May, the Ghent Youth Jazz Orchestra – an initiative by Muziekmozaïek & Vuurvogels – traveled to Kanazawa, Ghent’s sister city in Japan, for an unforgettable musical exchange, under the direction of Maarten Weyler.
The 19 young musicians brought their passion for jazz to life on a variety of stages. Their performances included a benefit concert for the Noto Peninsula, appearances at the Gargantua Music Festival and International Jazz Day, and a joint concert with the Kanazawa Junior Jazz Orchestra JAZZ-21.
There was also time to experience Japanese culture: from staying in a traditional guesthouse to participating in an authentic tea ceremony.
