Igor Senderov Quartet wins B-Jazz 2024

In collaboration with Jazz in 't Park, Muziekmozaïek organized the final of the B-Jazz International Contest 2024 over the past three days. In the Voorhavenpark in Ghent, the large audience, along with the jury, enjoyed six outstanding concerts. TB Project (Belgium) and the Tomer Cohen Trio (Belgium/Israel) emerged earlier this year from the three Belgian preliminaries in Leuven, Antwerp, and Harelbeke. Through international partners, the Giulio Ottanelli Quartet (Italy/France), ELLIOT (Netherlands), Igor Senderov Quartet (Israel/Germany/Italy), and Opening Theory (Romania) were selected as international finalists.

With seven different nationalities represented on stage, the international character of this competition for young jazz musicians was unmistakable. The future of jazz looks bright!

After the final concert on Saturday evening, the international professional jury deliberated. The unanimous decision: the winner of B-Jazz 2024, and recipient of the "Grand Prix Albert Michiels," is the Igor Senderov Quartet. This quartet, selected by the prestigious Saint Louis College of Music in Rome, consists of saxophonist Igor Senderov, Vincenzo Quirico on double bass, Giuseppe Sacchi on piano, and drummer Daniel Besthorn. In the coming months, they will perform in Spain, Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, and, of course, Belgium.

From the jury report: “Fantastic musicians who create a solid and cohesive set. Beautiful musical articulation and original compositions that take listeners on a magical and emotional journey.”
