The musician Rony Verbiest passed away.

Rony Verbiest, accordionist and saxophonist, died on Sunday 21 January 2024

He began playing the accordion at the age of 6, learning with his father. He went on to study at the conservatoires of Ghent and Brussels, where he was awarded first prize for saxophone. He began his musical career playing in the Belgian army bands 'Luchtmacht' and 'Guides'. He then went on to play in various groups and large ensembles, mixing jazz with folk and classical music.

He was 67 and lived with his wife, the actress Antje De Boeck, in Zelzate, the town of his birth.
