JazzLab celebrates 30 years

JazzLab celebrates 30 years

Since 1993, JazzLab that has,  as the Label W.E.R.F., emerged from arts center De Werf in Bruges, has a specific mission: promoting the best Belgian jazz. JazzLab has done this by bringing the musicians to the stages.

Thirty years is a long period and the trajectories of the music platform encountered several challenges. During the past lockdowns, JazzLab helped set up the streaming event Bel Jazz Fest for more than 3,000 music fans. Meanwhile, musicians were encouraged to create new music and several productions were picked up again after the crisis. Perseverance and a large dose of idealism ensure that the organisation is still there. Stronger than ever before.

What better way to celebrate an anniversary than join forces and do what you do best? In season 2023-2024, W.E.R.F. Records and JazzLab are supporting three projects that bring together past, present and future. With Chris Joris, they honor one of the absolute masters of Belgian jazz. His new album is a very personal project that will undoubtedly impress on stage. Bassist Louise van den Heuvel is at the forefront of a new generation and seized her carte blanche with both hands. Her quartet's album was recently recorded, with touring to follow in spring 2024. And finally there is Dans Kapot, the explosive combo of Don Kapot and four dancers. They present A Small World, a colorful and vital fusion of movement and music.
