Moondog à travers le 2ème siècle, conférence/concert

We are delighted to invite you to an evening dedicated to the fascinating world of Moondog, an unclassifiable composer and legendary figure of 20th-century New York.

Conference by Amaury Cornut

The evening will begin with the lecture “Moondog Through the 20th Century”, presented by Amaury Cornut, a specialist and passionate advocate of the work of Louis Thomas Hardin, better known as Moondog.

Since 2009, Amaury Cornut has been actively working to bring greater recognition to this singular composer. After creating the website moondog.fr, organising numerous tribute concerts across France, and founding the ensemble Minisym, dedicated to performing Moondog’s music, he published the first French biography devoted to the “Viking of Sixth Avenue” in 2014, with Le Mot et le Reste.

Throughout the conference, Amaury Cornut will explore the connections between Moondog and several major figures of 20th-century music, including Steve Reich, Elvis Costello, Janis Joplin and Leonard Bernstein, as well as numerous jazz musicians.

Through previously unseen photographs and rare audio archives, he will introduce us to an artist who remains relatively unknown, despite having been an iconic presence on the streets of New York in the 1950s and an important influence on several generations of musicians.

François Mardirossian & Alexis Paul

In the second part of the evening, François Mardirossian and Alexis Paul will present the work developed during their week-long residency around the music of Moondog.

For the occasion, they will return to the same beautiful setup as their concert dedicated to Erik Satie, which they performed here in 2025: François Mardirossian on piano and Alexis Paul on barrel organ.

An unusual encounter between two instruments, two performers and Moondog’s deeply singular musical universe, for what promises to be a truly special evening.
