With his EP ‘Shift’, pianist and composer Wouter Van den Broeck continues his exploration of the evolution of the acoustic jazz quintet. The music draws inspiration from the energy of hard bop whilst exploring form and structure in a deeply personal way: melodies in constant motion, rhythms that unfold, and improvisations that extend the musical narrative. A quest for balance between conception and instinct, where movement becomes the narrative thread.
