Each season, Rataplan provides innovative and emerging artists with a space to develop and present their own work. They spend five days working on a new musical project or artistic development with musical guests.

Calya J., born Jessica Boyeleba Balehen, is a music artist based in Antwerp. She is active as a singer, performer, storyteller, multi-instrumentalist and producer. In her music, she interweaves elements of soul, rap and experimental sounds. Themes such as identity, growth and self-reflection often form the core of her work. Her work is regularly expressed in multidisciplinary performances.
During her residency at Rataplan, she is working on PURP.S. Live – an interactive solo live performance based on her upcoming EP PURP.S.. This project is an artistic experiment in which she explores how she can translate her music live into a compelling and interactive experience.
