The Brussels-based trio Ibiyewa has released their debut album, Vendredi Magnifique. They play a blend of African and Madagascan rhythms, grooves, electro and improvisation.
The group IBIYEWA brings together three strong personalities from the Belgian capital : Angelo Moustapha (Beninese drummer and protégé of Philip Catherin), Belgian saxophonist Toine Thys and guitarist Joel Rabesolo (one of Madagascar’s leading artists).
Imagine the rhythms of a Beninese master drummer, the dancing harmonies of a Malagasy guitarist and the melodic improvisations of a saxophonist in love with the equator.
Their first album, Vendredi Magnifique (Magnificent Friday), is a celebration of joy, freedom, and the magic of the night. The name IBIYEWA, meaning "This place looks like us" in Yoruba, perfectly reflects their mission to break down cultural barriers and create music that unites. Their sound is an eclectic mix of African rhythms, deep grooves, electronic elements, captivating melodies, and daring improvisations.
