"Meanwhile" Laurent Doumont

In the tradition of the jazz quartet with guitar and tenor sax, this quartet draws inspiration from artists such as John Scofield, Chris Cheek, and Sonny Rollins... in all simplicity.

The music aims to be intelligent and accessible, varying between energetic songs and ballads, always with a hint of blues.

In the spring of 2020, the whole world was in slow motion and we were kindly asked to stay at home. Venues and clubs were closed and live music took the virtual route of monitors to reach its audience. Meanwhile, Laurent took advantage of this enforced break to return to the essence of his work: practising his instrument and writing music. Soon, these new compositions formed a repertoire that was particularly suited to the soul jazz quartet: saxophone, guitar, double bass and drums. As soon as it was possible to bring four musicians and their instruments together in the same space, Laurent called on his chosen partners to bring this music, born in isolation, to life and share it. Although it still carries a few melancholic overtones, it mainly expresses the joy of reunion and the simple pleasure of playing together.
