In her solo project ‘This is not a violin’, Ananta Roosens throws all comfort overboard, a ‘tabula rasa’ of her musical nature. With a few violins, her vocal cords and some small household objects, she ventures into ‘uncharted territory’ on her familiar instrument. Don't expect classical or world music, because every style is enriching until it becomes a limitation. A desire for freedom that finds an outlet in this challenge...

Part Two: Rempis/Chkifi – Aula

Dave Rempis and Nicolas Chkifi met during a week-long residency organised by Sound In Motion in Antwerp in April 2023. Spectral – the long-standing American brass trio consisting of Larry Ochs, Darren Johnston and Rempis – joined forces with the brilliant European trio of Marta Warelis, Hugo Antunes and Nicolas Chkifi. After this fruitful collaboration, Rempis and Chkifi decided to explore their common interests further by forming a new duo to develop their improvisations and affinities with West African music and free improvisation.

Their first album as a duo, entitled ‘AULA’, has been available on Aerophonic Records since 31 January 2025. Dit liveoptreden werd opgenomen in de legendarische concertzaal L'An Vert in het hart van Luik, België.

Dave Rempis is een van de meest gerenommeerde saxofonisten van Chicago en de Amerikaanse geïmproviseerde muziekscene, bekend van zijn vele bands zoals Rempis Percussion Quartet, Ballister en Kuzu. Hij combineert een krachtig geluid, een fenomenale techniek en een aanstekelijke vreugde om op het podium te staan.https://www.daverempis.com/

Nico Chkifi is een veelzijdige en zeer muzikale drummer die Fnussjen leidt, het kwartet waarvoor hij componeert. Hij trad ook op met SuperNova en Laniakea, en samen met muzikanten als John Dikeman, Seppe Gebruers, Hugo Antunes, Jeroen Van Herzeele, Jozef Dumoulin en vele anderen.
