Rob Luft Quartett

Rob Luft Quartett

Young British guitarist Rob Luft is regarded as one of the leading artists of the new generation of guitarists, with his virtuosity often compared to that of legends such as John McLaughlin and Pat Metheny. He has won several prestigious awards, including the Kenny Wheeler Prize from the Royal Academy of Music in London (2016) and 2nd prize at the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition.

Rob Luft's stage presence is always friendly and entirely unpretentious. He is known for putting his delicately dynamic playing at the service of others, performing in outstanding British ensembles led by John Surman, Byron Wallen, Eddie Parker, and Iain Ballamy. He is also the brilliant musical partner of Albanian singer Elina Duni, with whom he performed on January 24, 2024, at the Vieil Abattoir.

Currently, he is touring with his own album, "Dahab Days", composed during the COVID lockdown in the Egyptian seaside town of Dahab.

NDR reported:
“Luft's days in Dahab were filled with light – already visible in the cover art of 'Dahab Days', a triptych of blue waves, green palms, and yellow dunes. And you can hear it too: the sabbatical inspired bright, warm compositions like the title track, ‘Daylight Saving Time’, or the programmatic ‘Sunshine Days’, sometimes rising with hymn-like energy reminiscent of the early Pat Metheny Group… An artistic, rounded, and mature album from a guitarist who confidently carved out his niche early on. London, as a creative hotspot and global jazz bazaar, has shaped Luft just as much as all those contemporaries on the banks of the Thames in search of the African diaspora.”

The album explores new paths and cements Rob Luft as one of the most vital figures in the thriving UK jazz scene. His music blends influences from jazz, prog rock, and world folk – electric, dynamic, groovy. Jazz guitar at its finest.
