Hailing from Washington Heights, New York, Lakecia Benjamin is one of the most dynamic voices on today’s jazz, soul, and funk scene. A graduate of the Fiorello LaGuardia High School and New School University, she started performing early on with greats like Clark Terry and Reggie Workman, eventually touring with legends such as Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, The Roots, and Anita Baker.
Her blazing stage presence has taken her across four continents — including a performance at the White House for President Obama’s inaugural ball. Both a saxophonist and accomplished arranger, Lakecia Benjamin bridges the tradition of jazz with the electric pulse of modern soul and funk.
