Unfinished Business - Artist in Residence

Each season, Rataplan gives space to innovative and emerging artists to develop and present their own work. They spend five days working on a new musical project or artistic deepening with musical guests.

In May, we are hosting Unfinished Business.

As Artist in Residence, Unfinished Business will work toward the release concert of their first album.

Unfinished Business, five spirited musicians who met in the corridors of the Antwerp Conservatory and since then have been making a remarkable difference in the sonorous landscape in and around the city. 

Their dynamic repertoire cannot be lumped together. Grafted on jazz with influences of rock, funk, fusion and a firm anchor in theHard Bop, they bring a sound in which the echoes of the classics mingle with the newness of their future music; tangible in one ear-flick; Their Business is Unfinished! 

The schematically structured grids of their compositions offer room for improvisation that makes it possible to keep the mix of genres and stylistic influences fresh, crisp and alive. By literally breathing new life into the music each time, this collective cultivates aHive Mind. Their swarming tonality results in not crystallized, but liquid honey. You won't find it sweeter anywhere.

Debut album Open For Business will be released on April 4, 2025 on avant-garde label WastMyRecords, first single Bananas you can already listen to now.
