Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek have gained international recognition for their unique and captivating sound, blending Anatolian folk with psychedelic, pop, and soul influences. Led by singer and bağlama player Derya Yıldırım, who sings exclusively in Turkish—“It’s my emotional language,” she explains—the group is also shaped by the retro, cinematic vibes of Catapulte Records, thanks to Graham Mushnik (keys) and Antonin Voyant (guitar, bass, flute). Since 2022, the live energy has been enriched by South African drummer Helen Wells, who brings her own flair from the DIY and psych scenes of Cape Town. With two albums, an EP, and a new record coming on Big Crown Records produced by Leon Michels, the band is ready to reach even more listeners around the globe.
