Erik Truffaz, born in the early 1960s in France’s borderland region of the Pays de Gex, first discovered music amid the humid atmosphere of local Saturday night dances, where his role as the bandleader’s son gave him a special kind of immunity. One night, at the age of 8 or 9, he picked up his trumpet and improvised for the first time on a Sacha Distel tune — a revelation that happiness is worth more than money, a truth that would guide his life. Celebrated as a sonic adventurer, Truffaz is known for his ability to blend into symphonic works, Indian tablas, or distorted guitars battling walls of sound. But beyond all the experimentation, his music has always been, at its core, a language of love — immediate, instinctive, and disarming. For him, music is the most powerful way to tear down walls — and fall in love.
