Named French Revelation of 2024 by Jazzmag, Sophye Soliveau is a singer, harpist, and choir conductor. Her love for African-American music—from R'n'B and soul to gospel—took root in childhood and was later enriched by classical training. Out of her taste for musical reinterpretation, her pursuit of healing, and her journey toward freedom was born INITIATION, her debut album: a vibrant celebration of sensual, expressive R’n’B.
INITIATION stands out for its stripped-down orchestration. Sophye’s voice and her harp strings intertwine and soar over ethereal choral arrangements and a delicate yet groovy bass-drum rhythm section, enhancing a body of original songs with deep soul influences.
