Nduduzo Makhathini & friends

Pianist Nduduzo Makhathini has risen to prominence as one of the spiritual leaders of the new wave of South African talents, and has enjoyed a rapid international advance. In his latest project, he combines his trio with a string quartet and a series of special guests. His most recent work is an in-depth return to the core of existence and an exploration of what we as the human race have forgotten. Although violence and loss are a constant, Makhathini focuses primarily on forgiveness as a path to change and healing. He likes to use symbols and metaphors: vocals as a call, the string quartet to symbolise the diversity of the four continents, the piano trio to embody the potential of improvisation, and the trumpet as an urgent call to action. In this way Makhathini creates a versatile piece that combines musical ingenuity with expression. Music of and for our times.
