Donder

The Belgian jazz trio Donder – consisting of pianist Harrison Steingueldoir, drummer Casper Van De Velde and bassist Stan Callewaert – will bring their unique sound to STUKcafé. On the closing evening of Leuven Jazz, they will present their new album De Wonderen, released on November 22 by W.E.R.F. Records.

Donder is known for their distinctive and exploratory approach to jazz. Each album begins with a fresh vision, as the trio continuously forges new musical paths. In contrast to their previous record Het Verdriet, which emerged from a research project on Flemish (folk) music history, this time the premise was to compose and collect new material without any concepts or limitations.

The result is a chaotic blend of abstract and melodic work featuring both solos, duos and trios, two covers of pop songs and some occasional whistling and Norwegian lyrics. On De Wonderen, the trio returns to the core of their music with original compositions, minimalist melodies and special covers of artists such as Geneviève Artadi and John Lennon. With this new work, Donder delivers a distinctive and subtle sound, marked by raw textures and unexpected twists.

This concert promises to be an immersive evening, where jazz enthusiasts and fans of innovative music can enjoy Donder’s refreshing interpretation of both traditional and contemporary influences.
