Songs around Modiano
An original, singular and elegant creation, to be showcased at the 11th edition of the Francofaune Festival.
Dominique A, often hailed as a ‘major figure on the new French scene’, is going by his real name (Dominique Ané) and joining forces with two jazzmen (pianist Stephan Oliva and double bassist Sébastien Boisseau), as well as the eclectic Belgian drummer Sacha Toorop (Zop Hopop), one of the most loyal of the faithful. The link between all these talents? Patrick Modiano, winner of the 2014 Nobel Prize for Literature.
Journalist, jazz critic and lyricist Jean-François Mondot has long been captivated by Modiano's misty, nostalgic atmosphere. In the spring of 2020, he embarked on a daring project: translating Modiano's fog into song. For several months, he immersed himself in the work. The result was thirteen songs inspired by the writer's universe. Jean-François Mondot sent his texts to Dominique A. He was very lucky: the singer was also a Modiano reader. The project interested him. He decided not only to perform the texts but also to write the music.
The album, Memento, which ‘transforms fog into song’, was released in February 2024.
