SLR5 - Sal La Rocca Quintet

SLR5 - Sal La Rocca Quintet

Sal La Rocca, the Sicilian-born bassist from Sierras, is back with a new, profoundly different project, and continues to champion hard bop or post bop jazz that's as biting and groovy as ever.
For his new quintet, Sal has teamed up with the incomparable Igor Gehenot, whose percussive sound, tinged with Caribbean tones, makes for warm, inviting music. Phil Abraham joins the band with some fine textures that highlight Sal La Rocca's compositions. The double bassist is joined by Toots Thielemans Award-winning Israeli tenor saxophonist Maayan Smith and Umberto Odone on drums, whose temperaments and styles quickly win them over.
SLR5 showcases the energy and cohesion of each soloist. It's resolutely optimistic and catchy. It's music that gets you going straight away, that reminds you of the sea and the beach, and makes you want to dance, hug and laugh.... This is the strength of a close-knit group.
