John Scofield Trio | De Jazzontspooring 2023

Living guitar legend John Scofield is a master improviser with a very unique sound and stylistic diversity. The three-time Grammy winner is loved for his melodic guitar playing that can sound virtuosic and smooth on the one hand and angular and gritty on the other. He embraces many styles: from post-bop, funk and fusion to country and rhythm & blues.

After debuting with Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker, Scofield was a member of the Billy Cobham-George Duke band, joined the Gary Burton quartet and even toured with Miles Davis, which firmly established him as a musician and composer.

'Sco' recorded more than 40 albums as a leader including collaborations with Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell and Brad Mehldau. He played and recorded with Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus and many others. Throughout his career he alternated traditional jazz with funk-oriented electric music, with an open musical mind and enthusiastic drive.

With his current trio he plays highlights from his oeuvre. From own compositions to standards, covers and spontaneous improvisations. Their new album Uncle John's Band will be released on ECM Records in September.

After the concert of the John Scofield Trio you can enjoy the young talented jazz octet conducted by Frank Deruytter in the jazz café.
