Rosa Quartet - Confluent Jazz Festival

A family show (5-12 years old) mixing world music / Jazz / Song / Storytelling / Theater / Plastic arts

A show freely inspired by a tale by the Brazilian author Jorge Amado, The Cat and the Swallow: a love story.

In a paper garden, populated by animals and elements of nature decidedly talkative, everything begins at dawn, when the Morning awakens to extinguish the stars. She, summoned by Time, tries to justify her delay by telling him about the impossible love of the Tigger Cat and Miss Swallow, entrusted to her by the Wind, secretly in love with her.

This story, inspired by popular tradition, was written by the author in 1948 as a gift for her son's first birthday. Stored among the boy's belongings, it was not rediscovered until 1976 and has since been the subject of numerous adaptations of all kinds.

Rosa Quartet, respecting the original dreamlike dimension, creates a show of songs (in French) inspired by different musical traditions of the Nordeste of Brazil, the author's native land (capoeira, maracatu, maxixe, baião, samba, frevo...).

This tale, intended to feed the imagination of children, speaks of love and questions the temptation to unite what everything opposes: the Swallow and the Cat, the wind and the morning, writing and drawing, animals and language, ... music and words.
