Jimini
- Constituted : 01/04/2012
In Jimini’s music, the ego takes a back seat, and the narrative takes center stage. The band takes the listener on a playful journey, exploring the airy format of the saxophone trio: They blend the sound of traditional jazz with spatial textures and harmonies, while floating between their lyrical songs.
The band formed in 2021 at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory and consists of Ivar Myrset Asheim from Norway on drums (Andreas Røysum Ensemble), German saxophonist Jon Sensmeier (ALIGAGA), and bassist Martin Brunbjerg Rasmussen from Denmark (Little North, Nana Rashid). They released their debut album, "Scheinriese", on CRRNT Records in 2024 and are working on a new album for fall 2026.
“There’s life and dynamism in the music; it’s airy and energetic at the same time.” Jakob Anderskov
“The setting is open and free, yet at the same time there’s a clear melodic thread running through its very core. If someone were to suggest the Paul Motian Trio with Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano as a reference point, we wouldn’t be far off, but Jimini has in every way already managed to put a personal stamp on the music. Here, communication between equal partners is key. They listen to each other, they contribute, and all three get the space they ask for and deserve, while the band’s sound is, in a way, the most important thing for Jimini." Tor Hammerø - Nettavisen
»The trio suggests a free version of Nordic Jazz, relaxed, melodic and only rarely touches melancholic regions, but still sketches beautiful ballads like «Sultan» and «Hyrderne». Jimini moves seamlessly between story-like songs to more abstract and sparse improvisations and already has its own sound.« Eyal Hareuveni - Salt Peanuts
