Aegle
Aegle weaves poetic lyrics into modern music. This project, led by vocalist and composer Alexandra Gadzina (a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels), offers a translation of her words into ethereal yet universal tones. Aegle draws inspiration from poetry, nature, and diverse cultures.
In the summer of 2024, Aegle won second prize at the Dinant Jazz Contest, along with the Best Soloist award for Alexandra. The jury president, Jean-Claude Vantroyen, wrote at the time:
"Singer Alexandra Gadzina, from the group Aegle, has won the Best Soloist prize. Both groups will also perform at the Dinant Jazz Club, opening next year by the Meuse. They will undoubtedly be the stars of tomorrow..."
The press was enthusiastic about past concerts as well:
Mark Van Mullem from Luminous Dash on Aegle:
"If Aegle had released an album, there surely would have been a crowd at the merch stand. No doubt! Who wouldn't want to immediately hear those beautiful compositions again? Following the band and seeing them live again as soon as possible — that's what we’ll be doing!"
"Alexandra Gadzina did amazing things with her extraordinary voice — sometimes very adventurous and perhaps not for everyone, but to us, masterfully beautiful. We’re fans! With strong compositions like Untravelled, Haze, and Light, balancing between smooth jazz, avant-garde, and ethereal vibes."
Jazzepoes on Aegle during the Mechelen Jazz Contest finals:
"Also because the closing act of the contest, the quintet Aegle, delivered a beautiful performance. Didn’t I already say during the semifinals that they might become the audience favorite?"
