Pierre Lognay - The New International Edition

Pierre Lognay - The New International Edition

The music and the band of guitarist Pierre LOGNAY in its actual concept arose from the underground scene in Brussels in the late eighties. The new movement blended several influences in a jazz idiom.
The new jazz club at that time "The Kaai", proposed bands that sounded like a mix between African, European and American roots, with a touch of Gil Evans, Steve Coleman, George Russel or Jimmy Hendrickx.
Pierre Lognay created then a music that was sophisticated yet accessible and included odd meters in his compositions.

The addition of international players is today a step further in his accomplishment and the coming tour will launch the band on a world level (America, Europe and Africa).

Pierre Lognay - Guitar
One of the most acclaimed musicians in Europe, Pierre Lognay leads his own band since 1988. He regularly plays with top players based in Europe such as Pierre van Dormael, Théo de Jong, Hans Van Oosterhout, Stéphane Galland, Fabrizio Cassol... and intensively toured in festivals and jazz clubs (Nismes jazz Festival, Int'l jazz Festival in Liege, Belga jazz festival, Grenoble Jazz festival, A.M.R. Geneva, Sunset in paris...).
Since 1995, Pierre Lognay has successfully broadened his band with international guests and the current set-up of the sextet is his latest project.

Mark Turner - Tenor sax
In the last few years, Mark Turner arose from the new modern jazz scene. His first album, "Yam Yam" (Criss Cross) features the Brad Melhdau Trio plus Kurt Rosenwinkel. As a sideman, he played with Lionel Hampton, Billy Cobham, Tom Harrell, Carmen Lundy, Maria Schneider, to name but few, and appeared on many albums (Jimmy Smith, Art Taylor, Chris McBride, Mulgrew Miller, Roy Hargrove, Vincent Herring, Brian Blade, Ira Coleman, Jeff Batts and Joshua Redman).

Philippe Thomas - Trumpet
Since his graduation at Berklee College of Music in 1994, Philippe Thomas has been touring world wide and he is acknowledged as one of the new young lions. His playing led him to world class musicians such as Mal Waldron, Ricky Ford, Betty Carter, Peter Erskine or Wynton Marsalis. The Philippe Thomas quintet features some of the best players in New-York and regularly plays in the States and in Europe.
